MAUIKANEHOALANI (HE/HIM) is a native Hawaiian teacher of science, history, and Hawaiian culture in the Hawai’i public school system.
As an academic, he studies political philosophy - concentrating on matters of distributive justice, communitarianism, and indigenous rights.
As a training specialist and seasoned educator in both corporate and classroom settings, he excels at Socratically guiding compassionate explorations of complex and nuanced subject matter within Hawaiian culture.
As a visual artist, he balances Asian and Pasifika influences through his NIOKEPANI style. His fine art pieces in wood and in bone have been showcased internationally.
As a designer and fabricator, he and Paul Kaleionamauia Okami of KoAloha Ukulele founded KAIROU Waterman - a Honolulu-based artisan surfboard company specializing in unique presentations of Japanese craftsmanship with designs rooted in traditional Hawaiian wave-riding.
